10 Mar 2008 - Notice of Election of Parent Governor
Dear Parent or Guardian
I am writing to let you know that due to the resignation of Darren Abbott there is a vacancy for a Parent Governor on the Governing Body of New Scotland Hill School, and to invite parents who wish to stand for election as a Parent Governor to put their names forward. (Please note that a person is disqualified from election or appointment as a parent governor if they are an elected member of the local authority or if they work at the school for more than 500 hours in a school year).
We know that parents are interested in the education of their children and share the school’s commitment to ensuring the best possible education and opportunities for our pupils. One of the most significant ways to build on this commitment is to volunteer to be a parent governor. Parent governors play an important role in ensuring that the parent viewpoint is represented in decision making.
We are aware that sometimes people are reluctant to put themselves forward as parent governors possibly because they think that there are others better equipped to do the job. However, enthusiasm and willingness to work as part of the team are more important than any specific expertise or experience. If you would like further information on what being a governor would involve in terms of your time and commitment, please contact Mr
If you are eligible, and wish to stand for election as a Parent Governor you should complete a nomination form (available from school reception), have your nomination supported by another parent or carer of a child also attending the school, and insert a brief personal election statement (no more than 200 words) for circulation to voters. Please return it to the school marked for the attention of the Returning Officer by the closing date and time.
Nominations forms must be received by
9.15 a.m.
on
If there is only one nomination an appointment will be made without a ballot. If there is more than one nomination a secret ballot will be held. Each parent/guardian will be issued with a voting paper via pupil post. If you have more than one child at the school you will only get one voting paper for each parent/guardian. If you would prefer to receive the voting paper by post, please contact the school office for the relevant form.
The following timetable will apply if it is necessary to hold a ballot:
· Nomination forms sent home via pupil post
· Last day for returning nominations Date: Tuesday, 18th March by
9.15 a.m.
· Ballot paper dispatched to parents along with candidates’ personal election statements.
· Date of count of ballot papers -
All parents will be notified of the result.
Prospective nominees are advised that they maybe subject to a criminal records check. Full details of eligibility and disqualification criteria are contained in the guidance for elections and are printed on the reverse of the nomination form.
Yours sincerely
Returning Officer
