Swimming Lessons

 

Swimming lessons for years 1 to 6 will start next Monday, 9^th June.  We would like to thank the parent working party of Dean Armstrong (and his nephew Charlie Brown) John Warner and Noel Collier who replaced the roof of the changing rooms so that we can continue to use the pool until we are able to go ahead with the pool redevelopment. 

 

 

This year swimming lessons will be taken by our own teaching staff.  The timetable for swimming sessions is given below.

NB. There will be no swimming on Sports Day, Tuesday 8^th July.

 

 

Please ensure that your child has swimming costume (one piece costume for girls), towel and swimming hat on their allocated swimming day.  Swimming hats are available from the school office at a cost of £1.50.

 

 

Swimming is part of the national curriculum and is included in our scheme of work for P.E.   All children will be expected to take part in these sessions and I will need a letter if there is a medical reason why children cannot take part.

 

 

Voluntary Contribution

 

We are very fortunate to be able to offer swimming lessons to such a wide range of pupils, as most schools have to limit lessons to a single year group.  However, we would not be able to continue with this level of swimming tuition without the voluntary contributions from parents.  This year we are requesting a voluntary contribution of £5 each child towards the cost of swimming for this term. 

 

 

Help Needed

 

It is impossible to run the swimming programme without help from parents to organise and supervise these groups.  We again request help from parents to collect groups from classrooms and support the teacher in ensuring the safety of all pupils and supervising pupils changing.  If you are able to help please fill in the attached form and return it to the school office.  I will be holding a meeting with parent helpers at 2.30 p.m. on Friday, 6^th June.  Even if you have assisted in previous years I would be grateful if you could attend this meeting as I must go through safety procedures and you will be able to give advice and support to new helpers.
