13 Jun 2008 - 40th Anniversary Creative Week

Dear Parents,

New Scotland  Hill  Primary School will be celebrating its 40th Anniversary this year.

In order to celebrate we are going to have a ‘40th Anniversary Creative Week’ from

30th June - 4th July. Throughout the week the children will be taking part in a variety of activities reflecting events in the world since 1968.

We are hoping to have a range of visitors to the school as well.  For instance, on Monday 30th June Dance Energy will be running sessions for all Key Stage 2 children on Street Dance.

We would like all of the children to be involved in an art project, which will culminate in a piece of abstract photographic art, to reflect our modern vision of today’s world.

This will be organised by Lisa Haggis, one of our Teaching Assistants.

The Foundation Stage and Key Stage 1 children will be designing and illustrating the number 40 in their classes. The Key Stage 2 children are being asked to produce a piece of art work at home. This will need to reflect school life over the last 40 years and can be produced in any medium: 2-D or 3-D. If it is 2-D work it should be no bigger than A3 size (Double A4).Ideas could include; painting, drawing, collage, textiles, sculpture, modelling or clay. There will be prizes for each class. All work should be handed to the class teacher by 27th June.

On Friday 4th July all staff and children are invited to dress up as a famous person or in a style of clothing from 1968 – 2008. The day will end with a tea party in the school grounds.

As part of the celebrations, The PTA has funded a celebratory mug for all the children to remember this week.

We will let you know more information about the week nearer the time.

For the moment please encourage all of your Key Stage 2 children to be as creative at home as possible.

Your sincerely

Mrs Pat Kerton
