26 Jun 2008 - Creative Week, Sports Day and After School Club
Dear Parents and Carers
I am pleased to let you know that Mrs Feeney had a little girl in May, called Connie. Both are doing well and Mrs Feeney and Connie have been into school to visit Year 3.
School Fete
Our school fete is this Sunday, 29th June, starting at
I look forward to seeing you at this annual event. Tombola prizes should be brought in this Friday which is a non-uniform day.
40th Anniversary Creative Week
Next week there will be a change for pupils from their normal curriculum during our Anniversary Week and fun activities for all classes are planned.
On Tuesday, 1st July the school kitchen staff will be serving a typical 1960’s school lunch. The menu will be as follows:-
Cottage Pie with carrots and peas Or
Vegetable Cobbler
Followed by
Chocolate Sponge Pudding & Chocolate Custard Or
Strawberry Jelly Whip.
It would helpful if you would complete the attached Kitchen Order form if your child will be having the 1960’s dinner so that we have an idea of numbers for ordering. Please return the slip by Friday, 27th June. The cost of the lunch will be the normal 2008 price of £1.75!
Friday, 4th July Pupils to dress up as a famous person or in a style of clothing from 1968 – 2008.
The Key Stage 2 Artwork homework project must be handed into class teachers by Monday, 30th June at the latest. The piece of work should reflect school life over the last 40 years – details given on letter dated 13th June which is on the school website (www.newscotlandhill.ik.org)
Sports Day
We have reviewed the organisation of Sports Day and have made some changes to the timetable to avoid the children having to sit outside in the hot sun all day. The plan for the day is given overleaf.

Children should wear house colour t-shirts on Sports Day and will need sunhat, sun cream and a bottle of water. Please would you ensure that children have these items at the start of the school day as we ask that parents do not cross the race track during Sports Day to give them forgotten items! Thank you.
Year 6 will be organising Shades for the Day fundraiser for Guide Dogs for the Blind. They will be collecting a 50p donation from children or parents wearing sunglasses on Sports Day.
There will be no hot school lunches available on Sports Day but a packed lunch can be pre-ordered from the school kitchen if required. Please see attached order form.
Change Over Day 21st July
Children will get the opportunity to meet their new teachers and visit their new classrooms on the morning of 21st July. All teachers will be on the playground at
to meet and greet new parents, so please take the opportunity to say ‘hello’. The children will then line up in their new classes to go in. The children will spend the morning in their new classrooms, returning to their normal classes after lunch. You will be informed of your child’s new class teacher by letter with the end of year report.
Car parking in roads near the school
The parking outside the school is continuing to be an ongoing problem. Wherever possible we would encourage you and your children to walk to school. If you have to drive please be mindful of the children’s safety and park safely and legally respecting the resident access in the surrounding roads. The police have visited the school several times at pickup time and are extremely concerned about the congestion and parking and report that there is little sign of improvement. They have indicated to us that if the only way to improve the parking situation in roads around the school is to issue ‘tickets’ to owners of vehicles parked illegally, they will do this.
Cycling
It is good to see our new covered cycle shed provided by
After School Club
The After School Club is now well established in our school. The Club recently had their Ofsted inspection and were classed as a ‘good’ provider of after school care provision. The Club will have spaces available in September.
