9 Jul 2008 - Reports, Sports Day & Holidays

Dear Parents,

Reports

You will today receive your child’s report. This year we have reviewed how the report looks and some of the information that you are given. We have tried to put the focus on the whole child first and subject comments after and to ensure that the process is not so time-consuming for the teachers who on average spend an hour per pupil when report writing. We would really appreciate some feedback on this. Have we got the balance right? Do you want more detailed information, less detailed? Your comments are important to us and will help us to get it right. Please use the form enclosed with your child’s report for general comments on the format of the report.

Sports Day

It was lovely to see so many parents at this event and thank you to those who commented on how much they enjoyed the day. Staff also said they enjoyed it and I hope you agree that the slightly changed arrangements this year worked well. We would particularly like to thank you all for helping to clear the playground at the end of the day. It makes such a difference at the end of a long tiring day to have this support.

Adventure Playground

I am sorry that I had to grumble at some people about children playing on the equipment yesterday. If it was on public land available for public use then there would be no problem but unfortunately we have responsibilities under the terms of our insurance to make sure use of this equipment is supervised and this is what happens during the normal school day. I thank you for your support on this matter.

Holidays

We will become much stricter from September in the authorisation of leave of absence for children during school time in accordance with the guidance which went out recently to you. This guidance has been prepared by Bracknell Forest to ensure that there is a consistency of approach in all schools. As a Headteacher I am required to ensure that children only miss school if it is absolutely unavoidable. In exceptional circumstances I will need a letter explaining why leave of absence is being requested and I recognise that in some jobs term time holidays are unavoidable. If you need to take a holiday in term time because of your employment we will need a letter from your employer verifying this.

Yours sincerely

Pat Kerton
