22 May 2006 - Healthy Eating
Dear Parents,
As part of our objectives to enrich pupils' lives we have a strong Health & Fitness ethos within the school. We aim to encourage all pupils to think about the ways in which they can lead a fit, healthy and enjoyable life.
Healthy Eating continues to be a strong theme throughout the school. We are starting to see the results of the hard work by parents and children in our organic allotment. The tomatoes, potatoes and strawberries are all growing well. We have started to harvest our first vegetables, the radishes are very tasty! Pepper seeds have just been planted. We are very grateful to the few volunteers that are helping the children with this project, but we really do need more adult help. Any parents or grandparents who would be willing to give a little spare time to helping would be very much appreciated. If you can help please come to the office at 1.30 p.m. on Wednesday afternoons and someone will give you a task!
Cooking
We want to extend the use of our pupil kitchen for developing children's interest and skills in home cooking, but we are often short of volunteers to help with this. We would like to build a list of adults (parents, grandparents, aunts etc.) who would be willing to help regularly with teaching children how to cook. Please return the attached form if you would be willing to help children develop these important skills next year.
Fit4Life
Please find enclosed a copy of the new 'Fit4Life' Guide. I hope that you might find it interesting and useful to discuss with your child. The 'Fit4Life' Guides are written to encourage discussion in school and at home. They contain a number of Challenges that any young person or family can take up to improve their health and wellbeing. 'Fit4Life' is provided free for the school by the National Schools Partnership. If you have any comments or questions about 'Fit4Life' then they are always happy to hear from pupils or parents on. fit4life@nationalschoolspartnership.com.
Yours sincerely
