11 Oct 2006 - Data Collection
10th October 2006
Dear Parents
Data Collection
It is again time to check data held on our data base for pupils in our school. Your child's data sheet will be given to you at your forthcoming parent/pupil/teacher reviews. Mrs Greenfield-MacRae will distribute sheets for the nursery. The data should be checked carefully, particularly telephone contact numbers, and amended as necessary. Please note that for contact details, other than parents, only include local contacts, addresses and telephone numbers. The form should be returned to the school office. If at all possible, please check the information and leave the data sheet at reception before leaving the school on the review day.
This year, due to government initiatives, we have to collect additional information on pupil language and modes of travel to school.
Pupil Language
The collection of first language data can make a major contribution to the planning and implementation of strategies which promote equality, value diversity and support the educational inclusion of pupils.
Changes have been made to the way languages are recorded on school information systems. If languages, other than English, are spoken within the family, we need to collect further details. If your child falls within this category please request a language form from your child's teacher or the school office. On our data system a 'first language' other than English will be recorded where a child was/is exposed to this language during early development and continues to be exposed to this language in the home or community.
Modes of Travel to School
As our school has an official Travel Plan we have to submit information to the Department of Education on pupil's mode of transport to school. The modes of transport are listed on the data collection sheet and one category only should be ticked. This is the usual mode of transport to school. Where a pupil uses more than one mode of travel for each journey to school, the longest element of the journey by distance should be recorded.
If you should have queries on the above please contact the school office.
