5 Jan 2007 - School Meals, Cooking in School & PE

Dear Parents and Carers,

I hope you had a very enjoyable holiday and I would like to take this opportunity to wish you all a very Happy New Year. The staff and I would like to thank you and the children for the lovely gifts we all received at the end of last term.

We are very fortunate to have Mrs McGrory (Year 6) and Ms Moutrie (Year 2) joining the staff this term and know that the children will benefit from their expertise.

School Meals
The changes to the school meals have now been fully implemented and we are very pleased with the high standard of catering provided by our cook, Mrs Newby. We would however ask you to ensure payment for lunches is made either on the day or in advance on a weekly, half termly or termly basis. When pre-paying for meals please indicate either on the back of the cheque or in a letter the name of the child and the dates covered by the payment as we do need to keep accurate records.

Cooking in School
During the Autumn Term all classes in the school were able to experience cooking in the pupil kitchen. Many thanks to the people who volunteered and assisted in this project and I know many of you are continuing to work with the children this term. We would like to build on this success but do need extra helpers. I would like to invite existing helpers and any new recruits to a meeting on Tuesday 9th January at 2:45 p.m. to discuss arrangements for this term and to discuss any areas for improvements that were identified last term.

Physical Education
It would be easier for the children if their P.E. kits were brought into school on Mondays and taken home to wash on Fridays. Children enjoy P.E. and often become distressed when they have to miss lessons because they have forgotten their P.E. bags. Also, Mrs Foster has asked me to remind you that the children in Key Stage 2 have outdoor sessions even when it is cold and therefore children should bring tracksuits or jogging bottoms and sweat shirts into school.

Illness
January often brings an increase in coughs and colds etc. Please telephone the office on the first morning of any period of illness to inform us if your child is absent from school. A letter stating the reason for absence would be appreciated when the child returns to school.

Finally many thanks for all the best wishes I have received on taking up the post of Acting Headteacher. I am very happy to discuss any issues or concerns that you may have and you are welcome to make an appointment to see me at any mutually convenient time.

Yours sincerely,

Mrs. Janette Herd
Acting Headteacher
