6 Nov 2007 - Kickstart, Poppy Appeal, Money in School & PE

Dear Parents and Carers,

We love books...

We have started our fortnight of activities to promote reading and the love of books.
Just a reminder that David Orme, the author, will be in school working with the children on Wednesday 7th November. On Friday 9th November will be having a Book Character Day when pupils and staff can dress up as a character from a book. Please refer to Mrs Gordon's letter for information about other activities and events which will be happening over the coming days.

Kick Start
There will be no Kick Start on Friday 9th November because we will be selling books to the children in the morning and need to prepare the hall.

British Legion Poppy Appeal
We will be selling poppies this week. The children can exchange a silver coin for a poppy.

Money in school
When you are sending money into school, it would be helpful if it could be in a sealed envelope. The envelope should be clearly labelled with the child's name, class and details of payment written on the front. If you are sending more than one payment, separate envelopes are required. The children often forget how they should be allocating the money and get distressed when they make mistakes.

Health and safety in PE
There are two main areas of concern, firstly all jewellery, including earrings, must be removed for PE: putting tape on ears is no longer adequate. Secondly, all pupils - including the boys - who have long hair must tie it back during PE. Long hair, can get caught up in equipment and also restricts vision. Please provide your child with the means to tie their hair back.

Long hair must also be tied back in design technology and science.

Thank you for your support.

Yours sincerely,

Mrs Jan Herd
Acting Headteacher.
