Year 6 – Mrs Bond & Mrs Thomas

 

Literacy

 

Poetry form and structure. Reading and writing stories with emphasis on character and the passing of time.

 

Non- narrative: Persuasive writing and debates. Reading and writing recounts.

 

Numeracy

 

Fractions, percentages, decimals, multiplication and division – standard written methods; angles and position; length, area and perimeter; shape – the properties and triangles and circles; reading and plotting coordinates in four quadrants; consolidation of mental maths strategies; solving word problems.

P. E. is on Monday and Thursday: shorts, t-shirt and trainers should be brought into school on Mondays. Tracksuits can be worn if the weather is cold.

 

Homework

Year 6 have homework every day. Children are responsible for recording homework tasks and due dates in their homework diaries. Homework will be marked as it is returned, where possible, but must be returned on the day it is due.

 

Children in Year 6 are expected to read daily. Children should complete their reading records each time they read as these show preferences in literature and progress. Parents and carers are asked to hear their children read at least twice a week unless advised otherwise by the teacher. Please record your comments in the reading record.
