1 Feb 2008 - February Newsletter

1st February 2008

Dear Parents and Carers,

It is the beginning of February and already I am thinking of half-term holiday.  Where does time fly?

Talking of holidays, may I remind you that you should be taking family holidays out of term time.  A request for time out during term time should be an exception and for really special reasons and not just because it is a cheaper time.  I am getting more requests to take holidays during school time and I will have to be tighter on this in the future.  If you do decide to take time out without the school’s permission you could be fined and that could be more than any savings you have made on the holiday.

Can I ask for your help in what is a recurring problem at every school, but one that nearly caused a serious accident this week, and that is parking outside the school?  A child was nearly run over because of the way people had parked in the road outside the school gates.

·        Please park away from the school entrance.

·        Please do not park on the pavement

The school council asked if pupils could have tomato ketchup with their school lunches and the cook kindly provided some the next day as she had some in stock.  We have agreed they can have ketchup on the day it is ‘chip day’ but unfortunately it does not come cheap, as the cook has to buy it in sachets, and the cost is 10p for each one.  We will try this for a while to see how it goes, so if you would like your child to have ketchup please send in an extra 10p on that day.

Talking of food - the kitchen needs a ‘general assistant’ from daily, term time only.  If you are interested please contact Chris Cooper on 0774 7762169 or pop in and see Philipa in the kitchen.

We are having the nursery outdoor area redone in May and some of the old equipment has to go, especially the wooden climbing frame.  If you would like the climbing frame, make a small donation to the school, and it is yours for the taking.

I know you have had a PTA newsletter but may I remind you of the children’s Valentines Disco on Thursday, 14th February. The children love this so mark it in your diary.

Also, a bit of advance notice, Year 4 are planning a visit to Hampton  Court  Palace on Wednesday, 12th March.   Further details will be sent to parents shortly.

It is pleasing to tell you that the school has been awarded ‘Activemark’ status.  This award marks the extremely high level of commitment and funding to PE and sport in the school.  It is only awarded where high quality PE or sports takes place for at least 2 hours a week.

Finally, if you have any problems with your child’s schooling or would like advice about how you can help your child please come in and talk to us.  We are looking at the possibility of running some maths evenings for parents in the near future and will let you know as soon as we have details.

Yours sincerely
